Vgë Cafe: Vegan Fare not far From Home

January 20, 2016

Going out to dinner when you're on a vegan diet can be stressful. Even if you're lucky enough to find a vegetarian dish on the menu, chances are it's smothered in cheese or made with cow's milk. But less than a mile from Radwyn Apartments, Bryn Mawr boasts a restaurant that doesn't use animal products in any of its eats: Vgë Cafe.

In addition to the meat-free philosophy, Vgë's chefs also adhere to other health-conscious approaches. They never add extra sugar or oil to their fare, and they keep everything free of preservatives. Plus, they craft everything fresh, in-house, so there's never any question about what's in your meal. Decide whether you want a multigrain bread sandwich, a whole-wheat wrap, a brown rice bowl, or a salad, then choose your combination of fixings. There's the Vgësteak, which actually features seitan in lieu of meat, along with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and your choice of vegan mozzarella or Vgë Whiz. Banh mi fixings, roasted veggies, and baked falafel are among your other options. Don't forget to order kale chips on the side—patrons rave about them.
