Even if the name Auguste Rodin doesn't ring a bell, chances are you've seen at least one of his works. He's the sculptor behind The Thinker, a famous work commissioned in 1880 as part of a larger piece. Based upon parts of Dante's Inferno, The Thinker still wows guests to Philadelphia's Rodin Museum. It sits in a French-inspired garden, along with seven other works by Rodin. There's also a smaller version in the museum's galleries, which are all dedicated entirely to the masterpieces created by this lauded artist.
The museum opened in 1929 alongside some of the other famed art spaces in the city. Though it's not as large as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum fills a niche not only for French sculpture, but also French architecture and design. After all, its main gallery was designed in the Beaux-Arts architectural style, and its breathtaking garden is the work of well-known French landscaper Jacques Gréber. The culmination of these components makes the Rodin Museum well worth the short trip from Radwyn Apartments.
